Modes Of Tendering

Before learning the modes of tendering, first we have to learn about WHAT IS TENDER?


TENDER:- A TENDER IS AN INVITATION FROM THE OWNER TO THE CONTRACTOR TO EXECUTE SOME WORK AT SPECIFIED COST IN SPECIFIED TIME. IT IS PUBLISHED IN THE FORM OF TENDER NOTICE IN NEWS PAPER, NOTICE BOARDS, GUSSETS, ETC. ACCORDING TO THE COST OF WORKS.


There are mainly six modes of tendering or processes of tendering:-

  • OPEN TENDERING
  • GLOBAL TENDERING
  • LIMITED TENDERING
  • SINGLE TENDING
  • PROPRIETARY TENDERING
  • SPOT TENDERING



Open Tendering:-


  • This type of tendering is also known as public tendering. This is a system in which non- registered dealers are free to participate in this system, all the known and possible sources for the supply are made aware of of the requirements and allow to quotes.
  • Client advertises openly in the press or trade publications inviting contractors to apply for the project.
  • Contractor that is able to under take the project would request a tender document.
  • After receiving the tender from the architect, the contractor may be required to give a deposit and to ensure a bona fied tender.


 REMEMBER:- 

  1. Tenders are costly and time consuming overheads on successful tendering will be passed on to the client.
  2. Client could also refuse all the applicants if they don't suit the job.


Global Tendering:-

It is applied where items to be procured are not indigenous available in addition, copies of the tender, documents may be available to the respective countries embassy.

Single Tendering:-

When the purchase is finalized on the basis of single offer. This is known as single tender purchase.

Limited Tendering:-

In this mode, most likely and suitable sources are addressed at least five sources of supply are addressed and the suppliers shall be decided based on past experience. 




Spot Tendering:-

Spot tendering is to be resorted only for emergent requirements, All the well known vendors are requested to assemble and their offers are obtained after the requirements is shown to them on the spot.

Proprietary Tendering:-

It ia a tender which is addressed only to a proprietary\ manufactured his authorized agent because no equivalent is available from any other source and all possible suppliers quote only the product of one manufactured.
